Recent research commissioned by Rosetta Stone (language courses) in October 2007 and conducted by YouGov to gain an understanding of the UK's foreign language proficiency and related travel habits, surveyed more than 2000 males and females across the country - and came up with some interesting findings.
Results from the survey found that many overseas investors in Spain could be encountering rosetta stone software avoidable problems because they don't speak the local language. The research found that the majority of Britons (almost two thirds - 62 per cent) only spoke the English language and of those that did speak another language, this was mostly French (over 70%) - and this is despite Spain being one of the most popular destinations for British holidaymakers and overseas property investors.

But whilst only 13% could ask for directions in Spanish, more than double the number (29%) could ask for a drink at the bar!
